Sorry for the third political post today, but Obama seems to be getting a bit more slippery when it comes to answering the abortion question, if you ask me (and of course, no one is asking me still, so that’s why I blog). Rick Warren asked Obama when life begins. Obama answered: “Answering that question with specificity … is above my pay grade.”
Interesting.
Evidently Obama makes less than a campus ministry worker. Answering it is not about my pay grade. The answer is at conception. It’s not a dog in there. It’s not a Buick. It’s not a fruit salad or a iPod. It’s a living, breathing, eating, thinking, growing, feeling, baby.
I just had a friend say there are more important issues to vote on than abortion. (Not sorry, though, if you are reading this, bro.) I disagree. For Jesus lovers (this guy), it’s not an issue. It’s the issue. Abortion is about one thing: life. How much do we value life? The argument stands that people will still go get abortions anyway, so it’s not an issue. I’m not concerned with that. I’m concerned with a man leading my country, that I love dearly, who devalues life so much that he would say it’s okay for a baby who is being born to be snipped and killed right there in the doctor’s office. How is that different than what we are condemning China for in the human rights debate? Just because a baby can’t talk or do things on its own does not make it human or worthy of rights.
I’m reminded of the Dr. Seuss story Horton Hears a Who! and the famous line, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” Some things in life are complex, like politics on the whole. However, others are simple, like how important a life is.
It’s eternally important. That’s why it’s called life. And I praise God that though the 50 million babies that have died on American soil had no earthly father to care for and love them, they have a heavenly Father who is now holding them in their arms, embracing them for eternity.
