Am I Immature for Finding this Amusing?

A couple favorites from around Pretoria:

You can laugh, it’s okay.

Small guy, big cone

You couldn’t work for a better toilet company.

The Ruin of the Beast

12 05 2009

In my previous post, I wrote a bit about Burlap to Cashmere’s only album.  I just found this music video by Steven Delopoulos, Burlap’s frontman and primary creative.  He has done a few solo projects in the last few years and here is “The Ruin of the Beast.”  The artwork in this video is amazing.  And the meaning of the song?  Well, I’m still working on that one.

“The Truth”

28 04 2009

Artist Michael D’Antuono’s painting “The Truth” about Barack Obama.  Here’s an excerpt from the story:

“More than a presidential portrait,” writes D’Antuono on a website touting the painting, “‘The Truth’ is a politically, religiously and socially-charged statement on our nation’s current political climate and deep partisan divide that is sure to create a dialogue.”

Like others in the news who have depicted Obama in Christ-like imagery, D’Antuono insists he isn’t claiming the man is Messiah, but only inviting “individual interpretations.”

“‘The Truth,’ like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder,” claims the exhibit’s press release.

Read the whole thing.

D’Antuono has encouraged viewers to email him and respond to the question, “What is your truth.”  I plan to work on my response sometime this weekend and then post it here on the blog.

The Beauty of Beating Colorado in Football

12 12 2008

In case you are unable to read it clearly:

There’s something to be said for finding a way to win…but to steal the ball, then stomp on the coach’s kid as you score?  And destroy any hopes CU had to win the game…Whoa Nelly!  There is no place like Nebraska!

I have uploaded some photos on Flickr for your viewing pleasure.  Just click on them to increase the size.  You can even save them to your computer if you’d like — they are not copyrighted.

And also, sorry for not posting lately.  I’m still getting things in order at home and have started to raise financial support for STINT this coming January.

Rest in Peace, Kansas City Barbecue

27 06 2008

The famous Kansas City Barbecue, in San Diego, California, was engulfed in flames yesterday.  This is the restaurant in Top Gun where Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis acted in the “sleazy bar scene.”  Two summers ago, I visited San Diego and ate lunch at KC Barbecue.  It will forever hold a place in my heart.

We’ll miss you, KC BBQ!

I don’t know what to say.

I had to sport the Aviators.

I’m Really Fascinated by Wordle

24 06 2008

So I love the Wordle word clouds.  The one below is from an essay I wrote about the doctrine of instantaneous sanctification.  Some Christians think you can be perfect in this life.  The Bible makes it clear you cannot.

Check out each NT book in the ESV.

In the Bleachers at the College World Series

15 06 2008

Every year when I go to the College World Series, it brings back memories of growing up in Omaha and loving this week more than any other week of the year.  It reminds me of why I like baseball.  It reminds me that a long day in the sun at the ’Blatt with friends means more than simply watching baseball.  It makes me look forward to the day when I can take my kids to the ballpark and enjoy the sights and sounds of this great game.
